I'm so glad we're back and on track! If I could only seem to get all of my students to wake up and get back into the school routine. As of Monday, we only have 29 days until the ISAT. Every moment of our classroom time is valuable. Lets start acting like it!
Next week's line up includes:
Grammar - We'll move on working with nouns and work on making them possessive (they belong to me!).
Reading - We'll be looking at cause and effect. What causes an event and how it can effect other events (think of a domino arrangement). We'll continue to practice making inferences, and we're going to begin a Book Buddy relationship.
Literature - We'll wrap up our second rounds of literature circle discussions with a creative spin on a talk show in class.
Math - Here comes algebra! Ms. Kessinger LOVES algebra! Mostly, because it is something you use almost every day without knowing it. We'll begin our algebra unit with a bang!
Science - We'll be making power point research projects on the 8 planets.
Social Studies - We'll be brainstorming our classroom contribution to the outside world, how can we make a difference for those less fortunate in other locations.
Can't wait to see you Monday!

New Year = New Plan
As we all settle back into the regularity and agenda of school being back in session I'd like to remind everyone that as of tomorrow January 5th:
THERE ARE ONLY 34 SCHOOL DAYS LEFT UNTIL THE ISAT
That means every moment, every second of school time is valuable. We can not spend a moment of the New Year without a clear purpose.
I'll be devoting the blog from now on to weekly goals and expectations. That way you can know ahead of time what the week will look like.
For the week of Jan 5 - Jan 9:
In ELA- We'll be working on synonyms and antonyms, the structure of texts, identifying an author's purpose, comparing characters, plots, and themes, making inferences, and persuasive writing.
In Math - Interior angles of regular and non-regular polygons, exterior angles, Building triangles, we'll also have an investigative test for section 3.
In Social Studies - We're back to the O Ambassadors program where we'll focus on health care.
In Science - we will return to gravity and the possibility of life on other planets.
Good News! The December winning group will have lunch with me on Friday, I'll be ordering Indian food for you to sample.
January brings a new seating chart, jobs, and expectations, look forward to details in class.
